WIT Sports Scholarship Programme
The Waterford Institute of Technology Sports Scholarship Programme offers an athlete led development programme aimed at supporting the overall development of high performance athletes in a wide range of sports. The aim of WIT Sports Scholarship Programme is to give talented athletes the opportunity to develop their sporting and academic career by offering a network of support services and expertise which is tailored around the specific needs of each individual athlete.

Every academic year, WIT provides up to 35 GAA Sports Scholarship Awards across all GAA codes (Hurling, Football, Camogie, Ladies football and Handball) which are distributed out between the following three awarding categories;

  • Bronze
  • Silver
  • Gold

WIT Bronze Scholarship:
Bronze Scholarships are open to all codes and are generally given to prospective and new students on entry to WIT. This Scholarship is also available to students who have completed first year in college and have demonstrated above average potential and commitment to a WIT sports club.
The recipient will receive financial support in addition to the extensive support services in year one. Based on an assessment of their contribution to their sport/club after year one, the recipient will again receive more financial support in year two along with all the support services.

WIT Silver Scholarship:
Students can apply for a Silver Scholarship at the start of their 3rd year in college. These students will generally have received a Bronze Scholarship, but it will also be made available to students who have excelled in their sport in their two years in college, but were not on the Scholarship Programme.
Students receiving Silver Scholarships will have demonstrated their potential and commitment to their sport and WIT Club and will be competing at a high level. The recipient will receive financial support in addition to all of the support services available within the Scholarship Programme.

WIT Gold Scholarship:
Students can apply for a Gold Scholarship at the start of their 4th year in college. These students will generally have received a Silver level scholarship, but it will also be made available to students who have excelled in their sport in their three years in college, but were not in the Scholarship Programme.
Students receiving Gold Scholarships will have demonstrated their potential and commitment to their sport and WIT Club and should have the potential to compete at an even higher level. The recipient will receive financial support in addition to all of the support services available within the Programme.

Munster GAA Scholarships:
Each year the GAA Munster Council part-fund a number of GAA Scholarship Awards which have specific conditions attached. These awards are available in hurling, men’s and ladies’ gaelic football and camogie. Application forms for these are available through the WIT GAA Office or from the Clubs and Societies Office.
